Abstract
Melilla is a small Spanish enclave located in North Africa. The small town witnessed a historical event triggered by the presence again in its streets of a culture that had been expelled from them at the end of the 15th century. This return creates a model of coexistence that will serve as an example in later years. Melilla witnessed the rapid adaptation of the first Jewish community in Spanish territory since its exile in 1492. The Jewish community became the main investor and engine of the growth of the city as an attractive port for the capital of both foreign and peninsular powers.
