Abstract

Sofar’s Adventures encompasses a series literary features that can be attested in the Hebrew narrative tradition, together with others coming from the Arabian maqama, picaresque and romance literature. Its author is unknown yet. The original book was published in Hebrew around 1600. The whole story tells us about Sofar’s adventures and misadventures on procuring care for his family. It is worth drawing our attention instead of the Judeospanish, which in turn was the natural language for editions by the XVII century Jewish Salonika. Furthermore, it is neither included in any research on the Jewish Salonika after the Spanish Expulsion nor in any study on late Medieval Hebrew Literature or the ones focused on early Modern Hebrew Literature.
